Symptoms of Black Mold
Stachybotrys chartarum is a greenish-black mold sometimes referred to as black mold, toxic mold or deadly mold. This mold is known to cause heavy water damage. However, not all mold that is black in color is a member of this mold strain. Black mold is found in damp and wet areas of buildings. Usually, these areas are the result of an ongoing water seepage problem or plumbing leak. When active, the black mold looks wet and slimy. Black mold can cause serious health problems in certain people. The spores get into the lungs and can cause all sorts of health issues, including death. How Black Mold Affects You Stachybotrys spores are inhaled and then cause bleeding in the lungs. Infants and pregnant women are particularly susceptible to severe reactions or death from this strain of black mold. Black Mold Symptoms The most common symptoms of a reaction to black mold are nose bleeds and coughing up blood. Reactions to black mold mold are similar to flu symptoms and can have lethal results. The populations at highest risk are infants, pregnant women, the elderly and individuals with suppressed immune systems. However, how an individual reacts to the black mold depends on the amount of black mold present and the individual's sensitivity to the mold. If you start having flu like symptoms after being in a damp area, see your doctor right away. Black Mold Symptoms Related to Allergies Allergic reactions to mold range from typical allergy symptoms like watery eyes and runny nose to more severe reactions like asthma, respiratory failure, lack of concentration, chronic fatigue and vertigo.
