Enlisting the Help of Mold Professionals
Mold is a fungus. Molds are tiny organisms that reproduce by spores. They live and reproduce in environments that are humid and damp, provided they have a food source (usually wood based material). That "moldy" smell that is so often mentioned is actually the odor of gases released during the mold's life cycle. The American Society of Safety Engineers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of technologies and ethics as they pertain to the health, safety and environmental occupations. Training and Awareness of Mold Professionals Worldwide, mold professionals are being called upon to inform the public and building professionals about the dangers of mold. Their mission is to educate the public and private sectors at large to the hazards that mold presents to residents, occupants, and workers in the contaminated buildings. They are also attempting to develop guidelines for mold prevention and its safe removal and cleanup. The American Society of Safety Engineers goal is to produce a system of procedures that will allow mold professionals to safely remove and eradicate mold problems without endangering themselves. Effects of Mold on Health Research currently available does not indicate a link between mold and illness in healthy people. However, evidence does indicate that prolonged exposure to mold can make preexisting conditions like allergies and asthma worse. Extended exposure may also cause allergic reactions in otherwise healthy people. There is no concrete evidence to suggest that mold causes bleeding of the lungs (pulmonary bleeding ). Furthermore, no evidence exists to show that mold related illnesses are on the rise. Mold professionals contribute to the awareness of mold related issues by offering training to both the public and private sectors. This training comes in the form of cleanup, removal and prevention remedies. As more knowledge is needed, mold consulting may become a new area of employment for many.
