Get Rid of Mold Using Mold Cleaners
Mold is a fungus. You will find mold in places like bathrooms, basements and attics where it is usually damp or musty. Mold spores travel through the air and when they come in contact with moisture, they spread. This is why it is important to stop mold from spreading as quickly as you can. Using mold cleaners will help protect your home and the health and well being of the people living there. How to Use Mold Cleaners You need to identify the source of the mold as well as how large and area that needs to be cleaned. Whatever is causing the chronic moisture has to be fixed. Then you can remove the mold using a mold cleaner. After cleaning and removing the mold, make sure that the area is dry. Proper disposal of all contaminated items including rags and any building materials that were replaced is necessary. Various Types of Mold Cleaners All mold cleanup requires you to wear proper safety equipment like gloves, eye protection and a mask. To clean non-porous materials like sealed cabinets and furniture or floors, you can use any common household detergent. You can also use a commercial cleaner. Scrub the affected area with the detergent and hot water. A stiff brush or scouring pad works well for this. Rinse the items with hot water. You can use a shop vacuum (wet/dry vacuum) to aid in the speed of cleanup. Be sure to use one with a HEPA filter. Another way to prevent the spread of mold is with an air ionizer. An air ionizer is a cleaner that will remove mold and other harmful air particles. Sometimes, ozone-based products are effective in removing mold as well. Mold Cleaners that Contain Disinfectants Using mold cleaners that contain disinfectants to remove mold is not recommended. Many of these products are extremely hazardous to humans. Disinfectants are meant to be used to keep cleaned surfaces germ free; they are not supposed to be used with detergents or mold cleaners. Extreme caution should be used when handling any disinfectant. A preferable and safer choice is to use a 10 percent bleach and water solution. Thats 10 parts water to 1 part bleach. Rinse the surface down with this solution and leave to dry for about 10 minutes. Always be sure that the work area is well ventilated and never mix bleach and ammonia or with products containing ammonia as this produces a toxic gas.
